Shelter Cove is a true hidden gem: a pristine, ocean-wrapped Northern California community justly called the Lost Coast, since no major highways reach it. The nearly 25-mile-long jaw-dropping Lost Coast Trail is on the bucket list of many an avid backpacker.
Stretching between Shelter Cove to the south and the Mattole River to the north—in both Mendocino and Humboldt counties—the Lost Coast is a wild land of forests, fog, waves, and sand. The quaint little community offers stunning views, absolute serenity and an abundance of nature. Fishing has been a staple in this community for generations. Bring your own boat or use one of the local Charters. While Shelter Cove is a small and remote community, you will find a general store with well-curated groceries, a coffee shop, and pizza restaurant, and Gyppo Ale Mill - California’s most remote brewery offering a great craft beer selection, locally caught fish and live music. Another nice option is Mi Mochima for some fantastic and freshly created Venezuelan food. Enjoy the rugged coastline and all that it has to offer! Sweeping views, barking seals, grazing deer, migrating birds and endless tidepools.
